Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
